Hatchery Vaccination Equipment & Supplies

Innovative R&D for State-of-the-Art Equipment

Driven by innovation, Merial’s Vaccination Technologies and Services (VTS) group focuses on creating advanced equipment that meets the vaccination needs of poultry producers today and into the future. We currently have around 11,000 machines and devices installed around the world for successful administration of Merial’s avian vaccines in both the hatchery and the field.

Hatchery vaccination is already a well-established practice in many regions of the world, and rapidly growing in other markets. To support this trend, the VTS R&D team is continually optimizing and improving upon our existing portfolio, adapting equipment for local needs, and exploring cutting-edge technologies for new products that keep up with the latest trends in poultry vaccination.

Why Hatchery Administration?

With advances in equipment and procedures in recent years, hatchery vaccination is becoming a smarter choice than ever. Poultry producers who implement it can attest to the advantages:

  • A controlled environment with high biosecurity
  • The earliest possible start to disease protection—especially important for immune system threats like infectious bursal (Gumboro) disease and Marek’s disease
  • Precision and flexibility in modes of administration, including in ovo injection, individual sub-cutaneous injection of chicks, and mass spray
  • Reduces labor required later in the field, as well as stress on birds during their critical growth periods

Of course, not all vaccines are appropriate for hatchery administration, and many pathogens require subsequent field control. The experts of Merial’s Veterinary Services group develop customized vaccination programs with the right combination of hatchery and field products for each customer’s unique needs. And for producers interested in moving to hatchery vaccination, our VTS technicians offer site audits and consultations to help with a smooth transition.

Our Hatchery Equipment Range

VTS has developed a complete range of innovative equipment to administer Merial vaccines effectively and efficiently at the hatchery, with options for any poultry operation. Availability varies from region to region; following are some highlights from our portfolio.

In Ovo Administration

The Ovo-Jector™ vaccinator is Merial’s entry into the field of in ovo vaccination, which has revolutionized poultry vaccination over the past two decades, dramatically reducing labor by enabling vaccination into un-hatched chicks still in the egg. Our Ovo-Jector vaccinator is a user-friendly, highly adjustable, automated vaccinator able to inject up to 35,000 eggs per hour. It was developed for the Brazilian poultry industry, then launched in China in 2014, and is currently being introduced into several other markets. It can be used to administer our flagship product VAXXITEK® HVT + IBD.***

Vaccinating Young Chicks

New chicks can be vaccinated at the hatchery starting from one day of age, depending on the vaccine, allowing an early start to disease protection before they are moved to the farm.

For vaccines that require sub-cutaneous injection of individual chicks, VTS has several models of our AccuVac, Zootec, and Biojector machines, including options for injecting up to two vaccines at a time. For mass spray application, we offer variations of our Spra-Vac machines configured for hatchery set-ups. Whatever the method, all devices offer flexible settings and are designed to make vaccination safe, easy, and accurate.
